Penguin Poop The After Effects

OK, there I said it.  Penguin Poop!

Hands wringing, head shaking, coffee guzzling, alcohol drinking, all symptoms of the internet marketer that has been pooped on by the penguin.  If you own more than a few websites that are trying to sell some kind of giddy gadget or other, then you know what I mean.

Let’s get out of the damn zoo Google.  Panda was bad enough but this bird that don’t fly has literally put thousands of IM’rs practically out of business.  Through the years I have tried just about every type of linking method that you could shake a chicken at.  Some worked, some did not, most of them were struck down in Panda.

Thankfully since Panda I have been concentrating on “contextual links” and am thanking my lucky stars that I did.  I had some crappy sites that were affected by the Penguin but not many.   My Adsense numbers have dropped by half but crazy as it sounds some of my obscure niches have more than doubled in affiliate sales.  No complaints.  So how do I get other website owners to link to me?

Well it ain’t easy, so I take things into my own hands.  One good method is to guest post on other quality sites in your niche.  I prefer to add just one keyword link in the article body content instead of a resource box at the bottom of the article.  That is if the owner will let me.  You want it to appear as natural as can be.  Cathy Stucker who I have written about here before offers a great clearinghouse for publishers that are looking for guest posts, and authors that have articles for you to publish.

I also do not keep jamming the same keyword over and over.  By varying the keyword to several that you would be happy to be known for, along with some raw url links and even some that just say ‘Click Here‘ or ‘Read More‘ will make it look like they are natural links and that they are not automated.  I’m also doing more deep linking to article titles and not just the domain url.

Is it a lot of work?  You betcha!
Does it cost a lot to get one of those contextual links, well yes and no.  If you purchase good 600 word articles they will cost from 6 to 10 bucks, or write them yourself which will only cost you about fifty bucks of your time.  I would never use spun content.

So you have to look at the ROI.  Is it worth it to you to pay a few bucks per quality link?  I believe it is because these links stick!  They get indexed.  They count favorably towards you quality score (if there actually is such a thing) in the Google algorithm.

One other good place to get some quality links that stick are in fiverr.  Search for gigs that mention ‘contextual’.  I can not recommend anyone in particular, but check their rating.  There are some of these fiverr sellers that take their job seriously and will do a great job for you.  Considering that they only get a measly four bucks out of the deal, it is a great bargain for you.

So let us know how the penguin treated you and if you have any awesome suggestions to help your site get quality backlinks, we are all eyes, and ears.

All together now, let’s poop on the penguin!

I Am Unsubscribing From All Make Money Online Mail Lists

Backlinks

Its All About Backlinks

I’ve had enough.  There is not one single more “BEST money making idea in the universe that I need.

When you receive between 400 and 600 emails a day and 90% of them are automated email responders that you have opted into at the time of purchase of a WSO or some such fantastic offer that you can not refuse, it is time to regroup.

Mixed in with all the bull crap offers, most of which I never read and just tick them for mass delete, I might miss something really important from someone I care greatly about.  Oh sure, there are a few marketers that I admire and trust and their emails will be welcome as always.  Jon, Eric, Jack, Jeremy, Mark, and maybe a handful more will be read with great interest as always.  The rest of you can go suck putty balls.

If I get one more offer for retiring on the billions of dollars that I will make by publishing shit on the Kindle, I think my head will explode!  Jason is a carnival barker that giggles all the time he is fast talking his way through a webinar.  I refused to buy anything from him about a year ago.

The problem is that these guys network themselves into a cartel of shit spreaders so if you unsubscribe from one list the same band of thieves slide their crap under the door or, over the transom under the guise of your new best friend.  I’ve had it.  Enough!

Take a look at the dozens of most recent offers that you have received lately and see if you can instantly understand what the product is that they are selling.  If you are not able to instantly know what the product is, then guess what?  YOU are the product!

OK, so sour grapes you say.  Well maybe so.  I am sure that it has something to do with the fact that I have never felt confident enough to use an autoresponder.  I do not understand them.  I own some, am still paying on an AWEBER account every month that I never was able to get working.  One of these idiot companies talks to you in monkey speak.

Every guru circle, webinar, conference, email responder, etc. that I have ever responded to that had asked what else would I like to know?  I would always answer with “I need help in how to operate an email responder EXACTLY”.  Never, not one of them, ever responded with any semblance of an answer to my request with any kind of  help.

So here is what I do with internet marketing.  I write.  I publish hundreds of websites, all, each and every one of them with totally excellent content.  I then throw myself to the search engines and tell them how great my content is, and hope that over time I will get enough traffic that someone will actually want to buy some of my offers.

It is not exactly easy.  But I do make a living at it and my unusual niches actually surprise me sometimes.  Adsense dribbles in from time to time, which is a bonus, but do not ever count on Google helping you to make hundreds of thousands of dollars with Adsense.  Ain’t gonna happen.  Once they see you making some semblance of serious money, they slide you down in ranking.

Write good stuff.  Build backlinks, hundreds, thousands, millions of backlinks.  I never met a backlink I didn’t like.  Use social media, fiverr, the Warrior Forum, and then build some more backlinks.  Wait seven years like I have and then you will start to make some money.  Oh and those hundreds of thousands of backlinks that you built to your money sites five or six years ago, well they are gone.  Start all over again.  Internet Marketing is all about BACKLINKS.  I don’t give a crap what anyone tells you.  No links equals no money.

Have a nice day…

Google Panda SEO Traffic and YOU

Google Panda SEO

Google Panda SEO and Traffic

The relationship between SEO and Traffic is something that has always been assumed, but there is little hard evidence that one will lead to the other. What has been documented is without proper SEO, your website traffic does not generally flow your way.

This is one of the constants in the cyber world, most of what is known is assumed. The Google monster is the best example of this. They have made it a habit to be very vague on just what they do and how they list websites in their SERP’s. This is done on purpose so it will always be a challenge by website owners to guess just what will help them rise to the top.

With the stated overall goal of improving the enjoyment of the average surfer by Google, most website owners are concentrating on only posting quality articles. This content has to be keyword rich without being stuffed so the appropriate listing on the SERP’s is obtained. By only posting high quality content for the viewership to see, a site will be rewarded with a good ranking on the SERP’s for the appropriate keywords.

Google Panda SEO

That is the theory, but with Panda being introduced sometime ago, many website owners feel mistakes by Google were made. There has been a slow but continuous progress for many of the websites that were unjustly punished for unknown reasons. What is apparent is that the greater number of high quality links you have to your site, the better your results will be in the SERP’s most of the time. Again there have been no official studies confirming this.

There are many different web consultants that claim they have a fool proof plan that will get any site listed higher. What is the truth is that there are plans that work to SEO a site that will work in some instances part of the time. There is no one path to success other than for being consistent and determined over a long period of time.

By placing high quality content on your site that has the keywords placed in the optimum position, you stand the greatest chance of achieving a higher SERP’s standing as compared to your competitor. You will also need to link your site to multiple high traffic sites so the accumulated effect will be passed on to your site.

Knowing how to connect SEO and Traffic is and probably always will be a guessing game. You can do your part by always having quality content on your site and do not attempt to do any shortcuts that could jeopardize what you have already done. This is the best way to increase your traffic.

Latest on Google Panda SEO and Traffic

As this article goes to print we notice that another recent Panda update has just occurred.  You now doubt will see the resulting affects on some of your niche marketing sites.  Those of you that have highly relevant content, on topic in your niche will not be apt to be hurt.  That is, unless you do not update your content on a continual basis.

What Google wants their users to find is the latest news about whatever your subject is.  They also want to see relevant websites linked to from your article.  Why?  Because they want YOU to provide excellent resources (as well as sources) of your content.

SEOMoz tells it like it is:  Google’s “Freshness” Update

So post wisely, post on topic, post often, cite brand new or news type items, and link out to other authority sites even if it is to your competition.  You will get your reward in Google Heaven which will show you the relevance to SEO and traffic.

Increasing Your Traffic

increasing your traffic

The path to increasing your traffic is a simple formula. All you need is great content in a desired niche, high quality links that expose your site to the surfers of the web and be providing a product or information that is in demand. Each of these must be working together for the maximum positive effect to occur.

Increasing Your Traffic with Great Content

The great content is about one of the easiest components in this formula to acquire. For most webmasters, this is accomplished by hiring a content or article writer to provide the accurate and compelling content so the visitors to your site react the way the webmasters prefer them to. This can be by inspiring an impulse purchase, joining a membership site or just informing the public on the topic of interest to your visitors.

The choice of your niche is very important. For many webmasters, they attempt to pick a hot topic that is popular but they will also have a great deal of competition. This does work, just as long as you establish yourself as an expert on the topic. If you are constantly jumping around on the focus point of the website, then your SERP’s will suffer along with your following.

By establishing your website on a topic or niche over an extended period of time, the search engines will reward you with higher rankings in the SERP’s. This is just one of the many factors the search engines look at when comparing websites. Another is the loading time which has significantly hurt many sites that have placed an extensive flash presentation on the home page.

When deciding if your flash presentation is worth having on your home page, take into consideration what your visitors will be thinking. As a website owner, you only have 1 to 3 seconds to intrigue your visitors into exploring your site. No matter how impressive your flash presentation is.  If it is not instantaneous, most visitors will automatically move on without ever knowing what your website is all about.

Increasing your traffic with backlinks

The linking of most sites is now being outsourced to third world virtual assistants. This is done because of their low cost to do this tedious work. The establishing of links can be done with software, but not for the better and higher quality links. As an example of how many links are necessary to obtain a high ranking is the Yahoo site. They have nearly 1.5 million links to their site and only rank #3 in America. Google is number 1 with over 3.2 million links.

This website at LinkMoney.org regularly reviews and reports on various link building tools and services.  When we do this you may be assured that we have purchased the product and tested it ourselves and would only recommend something that is proven to work well.  When it comes to serious backlinks, the ones that have the highest value imho, you will do well to find other authority blogs in your niche and establish a relationship with the owner.

Increasing your traffic with guest posts

You can get the blog owners attention by commenting on their blog posts, linking to them from your various sites, and then offering to write a guest post.  Guest posts, on topic, in your niche, will provide very high quality backlinks to your site.

For you to be constantly increasing your traffic for your website, it will take work along with wise decisions in many different aspects of your website. To be a success on the internet, persistence, great content and backlinks is the key to increasing your traffic.

How to Force a Web Submit Site into Fast Index Mode!

So you have done your keyword research and have written a killer post on your Blog, now what?  You wait for the search engines to find it.  After all, until the search engines smile on you and give you a high ranking position for your keyword of choice, very few people will see your article amidst the billions of articles posted every day.

Sure some of your fans will read it via their email subscription or their RSS subscription to your Blog feed, but you could count on them reading it anyway.  What you need is a world wide web submit site for a fast index.

You must be indexed.  Indexing occurs often on popular blogs because the search engines know those of you who post often with new, fresh, exciting content and those little index spiders will come back and crawl your site several times a day if you are an A-Blogger, whatever that is.

So what about a niche site that you care about because you have built a site around a very specific subject or product and you have optimized this site with advertisements or offers that you want to make money with?  You may only post to this niche site once a week or maybe once a month.  The spiders will find it eventually, but they are not hanging around outside your hosting portal just waiting for you to feed them with new digits.

So what do you do to call them in and say “Hey spiders, I’ve got some new awesome content!”  Well here is what I suggest.  You probably already have a Facebook (the biggest) and Twitter (the hottest) social network accounts, but what about having more than two dozen real popular social sites that you could post to all at once with just one button?

Well there is just such a magic button out there and it is free.  Ping.fm is my new best friend.  Go there now and get your free account and set it up with all of your social bookmarking sites of choice, and then when you write a post all you have to do is copy the title of the post and the url of your new article into the Ping.fm text box and hit “Ping It!”.  That’s all there is to it you have now announced to up to 30 social sites that you have new content.

I guarantee that the spiders that live at Google, Yahoo and Bing will be running across their webs to come to visit your new post.  You will be indexed almost immediately.  Now that’s what I call a fast index!

Sure it takes a little time to set up Ping.fm but it is worth the effort, I promise.  Here is a list of social sites that you can post to all with one push button; Twitter, Facebook, Ning, Tumblr, Brightkite, FriendFeed, hi5, Delicious, Diigo, Multiply, posterous, Facebook Pages, MySpace, Gtalk Status, AIM Status, LinkeIn, Identi.ca, Plurk, Jaiku, Blogger, Plaxo Pulse, Live Journal, Bebo, Xanga, WordPress.com, Custom URL, Friendster, Koomk, you are, Yammer, Flickr, Utterli, Seesmic, Laconi.ca, Present.ly, Vox, TypePad, ShoutEm, StreetMavens, Radar, MyYearbook, Photobucket, Tagged, MerchantCircle and Yahoo Meme.  This list changes from time to time and more are being added often.

What I do now is to keep Ping.fm open on a page of its own.  Then every time I post, I Ping.fm it.  Every time I comment on another Blog, I Ping.fm it.  Every time I create a back link somewhere on a directory or other website, I Ping.fm it.  Get the idea?  You want traffic?  You can’t handle the traffic that you will get with this web submit site!

Is There an Email Security Flaw in Google Gmail ?

The recent spate of domain thefts that has occurred and some of which was reported here on LinkMoney (dot org,) has caused me to revisit my Gmail account and analyze whether or not I want to make any changes in my email security settings or in the use of Gmail for secure information.

When you are thinking about setting up a web based email account and you start thinking about things like “google mail com” you will obviously come to the “Gmail Register” page.  I have to admit, I Love Gmail. I was an early adopter and really loved the convenience of using Gmail accounts for all of my various and sundry Internet forays.  It is very easy to set up.  Once you obtain a Gmail address it is used throughout all of the Google domains, such as Adsense, Analytics, Calendar, Search, and on and on…

In other words, you open your complete identification and every single move to the Google bots.  No problem as long as you don’t care about what information a giant all encompassing humongous network of computers, all controlled by one company, collects data on you, like forever…

I live a pretty clean legal lifestyle and don’t really have anything to hide.  But, do I really want all of this stuff out there in the cloud completely columnarized and searchable by any one that has access to the data?  I think not, but alas it is already too late for me.

That said, there are SOME things that I think might be better deleted from my Google history.  I decided to start with the situation that made me delve into this train of thought to begin with.  That is my association with GoDaddy.

In each of the recent cases of domain theft that was storied a plenty, like HERE:  I Can Steal Your Website and HERE:  Stolen Website Returned and dozens of other places, it was reported that in all cases that  the  GoDaddy account holders that had been compromised also had been using Gmail addresses.

Hmmm.  Could it be a Gmail problem?  Matt Cutts from Google said that their security division was looking into it, and a few days ago on one of the mail lists that I subscribe to there was an announcement purported to be from Google that there was no security flaw in Gmail.

Well I am going to tell you about one very scary flaw that I discovered this morning on my own machine, but first I want to continue with my first train of thought.  So I decided that just in case, maybe it would be better to tighten things up a bit.

First, I changed my Gmail password, which hadn’t been changed in over a dozen or so years, maybe longer, ever since I had an account.   Now that doesn’t sound too difficult but it is a pain in the butt for every time you login from a new source or an offsite computer, or check your account setting, or sign into Adsense or sign into Analytics, etc., you have to go through the whole procedure over and over.  No problem, small price to pay if it makes you more secure right?

Second I went to GoDaddy and changed the password of my account there.
Good, felt better.  Don’t get too complacent yet.

Then I got to thinking, why not go through all of my old Gmail messages and filter all of the GoDaddy messages, then archive them somewhere, and then delete them all from my Gmail account?

Guess what?  You can’t do that.  There is no method that I have been able to find that allows you to bulk forward, or save to your hard disk, any archived messages.  I checked in my control panel, online Google help, Gmail forums and anywhere else I could think of.  As a matter of fact in one of the Gmail FAQs they specifically say that you can not do that.  Bummer.  That is not exactly a great feature Google.  Duh.

So here is what I did for the past three hours.  I created a Gmail filter for all mail that came from GoDaddy and created a command that will forward ALL FUTURE messages from GD to my https secure email address that came with my ISP hosting account.  The operative word here is “future.”   There is no way to bulk forward all of the previous messages.

Not wanting to be beat by this, I went through each and every previous message from GD and manually forwarded them to my ISP email account, and after I heard the reassuring little blunk sound from Outlook Express that a new email had been received I then manually deleted that Gmail version.

Now there were three pages of messages from GD so this took a while.  I did not bother with the customer satisfaction surveys and the junk mail that GoDaddy constantly sends out, but all of the registration information, account names, passwords, etc., all went to my secure account.  Then I deleted them from Gmail.

Now here is the flaw that I discovered when I started digging into this in the wee hours of this morning. I have many Gmail accounts.  I have a couple of main ones that I use depending upon which hat I am wearing, but then there are many that were set up when I started a new website and wanted to have differing addresses for.  Owning or administering over a hundred websites, this can become a quagmire.

Lo and behold as I was going down through the list of names of my Gmail accounts that I had set up, I saw one that I did not remember setting up, though it had a slight twinge of memory associated with it.  Here is what I discovered.  Someone that called them self Tamara Underwood with a Sierratel.com email address WAS IN MY LIST OF PERSONAL GMAIL ACCOUNTS! What the Hell!

How could that be? I started digging in to finding out more about this name and the email account shown and found out that she/he had been in my Gmail account list SINCE 2001 !  Then the vague memory that I mentioned above kicked in and I do sort of remember this name and that at the time I also had all kinds of computer grief.

At about that time my main computer and my laptop both got infected with multiple viruses that eventually caused me to give up, reformat and reload Windows, because all of the tools at hand were not able to remove the problems.  I never tied the name Tamara to this problem, but it must have been so.

Through searching on Google I found where the same person had posted crappy nonsense comments on dozens of Blogs and message boards during 2001-2002.  In each case the comment would tell the reader to contact them at that email address.  So probably I did so, even though I know better now and never answer anything like that, I might have back then, and that is no doubt how the viruses got on my machines.

But it still does not answer how the heck that person could have gotten their email address in my Gmail forward to mail list?  Do you think that they have been receiving copies of all of my emails for these many years?  That does not seem likely or my life would be in a much bigger mess than it is.  It seems more likely that they somehow might have access to my computer and use that account to send out spam messages.  But still it is scary.  How could it happen?

I would say that this is a security flaw Google. Someone else with a California ISP address being in my Gmail list should NOT be allowed.  I’m sure you could put the blame on me after so many years.  I just vaguely remember the situation, but I am ABSOLUTELY POSITIVE that I NEVER knowingly inserted that email address into my own account.

So what about you readers?  Do you think this is an email security problem? Did you go to the Gmail Register page?  Check your accounts.  A little housekeeping might be in order.  Our readers would love to hear from any of you that have had similar problems with email security, or if you have any questions or comments on this specific article.  Leave a Comment.

Now I have to go through and do all of the above for each of my other five domain registrars and website hosting companies.

See you in the spring.
Rich
